Arizona Veterans

Operation Liver Health

For All Veterans with these Chronic Liver Diseases:
Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, NASH, and Alcoholic Liver Disease

Many Veterans suffer from Chronic Liver Disease, and new technology now exists that allows for improved monitoring and management of liver diseases. Veterans Organizations are working with The LiverLab to establish the OPERATION LIVER HEALTH program for Arizona Veterans with Chronic Liver Disease. The LiverLab wants to provide our Phoenix-area Veterans with this top-of-the-line medical technology. When it comes to healthcare coverage many Veterans are uninsured or underinsured. The LiverLab is dedicated to serving our Veterans and so The LiverLab will give free fibroscans to uninsured or underinsured veterans with presentation of a valid VFW, American Legion or other Veterans Organization ID card.

OPERATION LIVER HEALTH is also sponsoring medical research and human clinical trials on anti-fibrotic therapies for CLD patients, and AZ Veterans will be preferentially enrolled. Recruitment will start soon!

We the undersigned endorse the OPERATION LIVER HEALTH program as a positive step forward in serving the Healthcare needs of our Arizona's Military Veterans:

The approval of the FibroScan machine by the FDA last year is a revolutionary development in the monitoring of liver fibrosis in patients with Chronic Liver Disease. FibroScans are non-invasive, safe and painless and they replace the expensive and risky needle biopsy to measure liver fibrosis. Now frequent and accurate monitoring of patients with liver disease is easy and practical.

NO VETERAN WILL BE TURNED AWAY.

When it comes to healthcare coverage many Veterans are uninsured or underinsured. Please ask your doctor about ordering a FibroScan.

FibroScans must be ordered by a physician. If you are currently not under the care of a physician but would like to receive a FibroScan, we can refer you to a Physician in our participation group who will assess your health needs and order a FibroScan for you if necessary.

It is important to Monitor and Manage your liver disease

Hepatitis C patients and other chronic liver disease patients progress towards liver cirrhosis at different rates – the rate of progression of liver fibrosis varies from individual to individual.

Lifestyle style choices, diet, alcohol use and prescription drug use may all affect liver health and accelerate the advance of liver fibrosis towards cirrhosis.

Often, patients who did not monitor their liver disease will progress into liver cirrhosis without being aware of the fact until it is too late.

With new, but expensive Hepatitis C drugs available now on the market, regular liver monitoring by FibroScan should be part of the information required to make an informed decision about choosing new drug therapy.

That is why it is important for effective and frequent monitoring of your liver.
